In my experience, the typical office worker has between 2-6 meetings a day.
I personally have around 4 and produce about half of these. And unfortunately, it’s hard to call all of them “productive meetings.”
All too often those meetings feel like wasted time. The topic isn’t relevant to you. Or there’s no opportunity to voice your opinion. Or the material has been covered on a dozen other occasions! What’s worse, some of those meetings use up valuable time you needed to complete your actual work. Calling it counterproductive is a bit of an understatement. Sometimes, these meetings feel completely unnecessary!
No one wants to suffer through an ineffectual, pointless meeting. No one. Yet, we’ve all been there, and unless you’re kidding yourself, you can expect a few more in your future. So the question is, how do we avoid worthless meetings? What do you need to do to host more productive meetings?
